TRIUMF’s state-of-the-art Machine Shop specializes in translating physicists’ vision into prototypes and one-of-a-kind experimental components. This is often an iterative process in which scientists, designers and machinists work back-and-forth to create unique components that must meet extreme tolerances for vacuum, cryogenics, and high-precision measurement. TRIUMF Machine Shop is currently in need of a Journeyperson Welder who will be responsible for the fabrication, modification and repair of custom components associated with TRIUMF’s experimental equipment and accelerators. Our welders also work in the specialized area of electron beam welding, so the opportunity to upgrade your skill set will also be provided.
As our ideal candidate, you are able to work independently and have the ability to exercise good judgement when dealing with complex fabrication issues.
Your other qualifications
- Experience with MIG/TIG welding, and welding on a variety of materials both ferrous and non-ferrous.
- Hard & soft soldering experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
- A Level B Welding ticket and some related technical experience
While not required, experience welding vacuum components would be considered an asset to your application.
Minimum Qualifications
- Years of Experience
- BCTQ Machinist Red Seal certification.
- Minimum 4 years experience Welding and Fabricating a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Salary Range:
$56,000.00 – $70,000.00
