Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the predictive and preventative maintenance and repairs of loading/unloading equipment used in potato storages. Duties will include safe operation and working knowledge of light welding, torching, replacing bearings, rollers, belt lacings, and use of hand-held tools.
  • Ensuring the facility and equipment are continuously operating at peak performance levels and building is maintained to Irving standards.
  • Involvement in projects and new equipment installations for potato storage facilities.
  • Actively participate in training opportunities
  • Candidate is expected to follow all safety policies and procedures and Lead/participate in safety talks/meetings.
  • Support the unloading and storage of the fall harvest at Cavendish Farms. Ensure product is unloaded in a timely manner that causes minimal damage to potatoes with special focus on limiting mechanical damage and bruising.
  • Responsible for maintaining records and documentation of equipment repairs and maintenance for the purpose of Canada Gap Food Safety, as well as upholding facility cleanliness as per Irving Standards
  • Responsible for placing and moving fans and heaters in potato storage warehouses with direction from storage manager.
  • Responsible for monitoring, documenting, and performing oil and filter changes on humidification, filtration, and air systems in potato storage in New Annan as well as the outside storage facilities.
  • During Harvest season support storage manager with installing temperature probes in the potato storage and opening and closing culvert and trench sliders.
  • Candidate will assist the maintenance team by ensuring all supplies and part are available to complete repairs.
  • Duties will include operation of Forklift, skid steer, loader, and tractors to transport and set up equipment for operational needs, as well as repairs and maintenance.
  • All other duties assigned by Storage Manager

Qualifications

  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Agriculture experience and knowledge of farming operations would be an asset.
  • Certification in PEI Farm Technician Apprenticeship Blue Seal and/or Agricultural, Heavy Equipment Technician, Welding or Electrical certification would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills; Strong problem-solving skills; Results-driven; and detail oriented.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience handling potato and farm equipment (AirSep) operating experience.
  • Class 3A license would be considered an asset.
  • Hold a valid class 5 driver’s license, and provide a drivers abstract in good standing.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime is required; Dependent on operational needs of all storage facilities throughout the year – whether the plants need raw product, or warehouses are being filled in the Fall.
  • Ability to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical capabilities required for the job will include kneeling, crouching, lifting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as repetitive motions.
  • Work is inside, outside and the noise level in work environment is occasionally loud.
