Job Description

McCain Fertilizer/Produce is currently seeking a General Laborer/Yard Attendant based out of our Grand Falls Grain Location. Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the operation functions, while always ensuring a safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to work with minimum supervision in a team environment
• Ability to work with an eye to efficiency, safety and speed.
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• Class 3 is an asset.
• Forklift, skid loader, track mobile and ten-wheeler experience is an asset, but will provide training.
• Ability to receive intensive training and carry out work as instructed
• Willing and capable of working at heights.
• Self-starting, capable of seeking out tasks during downtime
• Strong mechanical and heavy equipment aptitude is an asset
• Ability to work physically, including climbing and lifting

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

• Foster a safe work environment and promote continuous improvement initiatives with regards to workplace safety
• Assist in performing preventive maintenance and repairs of all equipment and buildings
• Able to work extended hours during the busy season (Spring and Fall)
• Able to work safely loading and unloading rail cars
• Exterior physical labor in varying weather conditions as required
• Capable of asserting safe work environment and safety requirements as necessary
• Capable of following safety training precisely as applies to rail cars
• Capable of working in dusty environments
• Capable of learning Grading and Cleaning techniques under the directions of the Site supervisor

Assertive safety in this role is a requirement—applicants with Safety backgrounds or demonstrated Safety training and experience will be prioritized. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can manage their time effectively to maximize task completion throughout the workday with a minimum of guidance following orientation and training. This person will have an interest in always being busy and identifying opportunities for preventative maintenance and improving efficiencies throughout the day.
