Job Description
The Crew Commander plays a critical role in leading a team of firefighters in emergency and non-emergency situations. This position is responsible for ensuring rapid, effective, and safe response to incidents such as fires, rescues, and other emergencies to minimize risk and prevent escalation.
Key responsibilities include supervising crew operations, supporting the Sub Officer in managing shift activities, and ensuring operational readiness through drills, training, and equipment maintenance. The Crew Commander must demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills in high-pressure and potentially hazardous environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate firefighting and rescue operations during emergencies
- Assist the Sub Officer in directing daily shift duties and emergency responses
- Supervise and guide crew members during drills, exercises, and real incidents
- Ensure readiness and proper use of firefighting and rescue equipment
- Operate emergency vehicles safely when required
- Assess emergency situations quickly and provide clear instructions to the team
- Maintain safety standards and ensure a safe working environment
- Provide support and empathy to victims during distressing situations
- Participate in community drills and preparedness programs
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 7 years’ experience as a firefighter (industrial, civil defence, or military fire service) OR 3 years with QP/QatarEnergy
- Valid driving license (Heavy Vehicle preferred)
- Strong technical knowledge of modern firefighting and rescue equipment
- Ability to make quick decisions in high-risk, confusing situations
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Emotional resilience and ability to handle distressing incidents
- Intermediate English communication skills (spoken & written)
Educational Qualifications
- Secondary school completion
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
- Breathing Apparatus (BA) certification
- NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 1
- NFPA Fire Officer Level 1
- Certified First Aider (CPR with AED)
