As the main point of contact, you will be responsible for defining the scope of work, developing detailed specifications, and aligning them with project schedules.
Your expertise will be crucial for the success of equipment refurbishment projects, as well as activities integrated into the systems and equipment maintenance and reliability program. By taking responsibility for establishing the engineering activities schedule, rigorously monitoring the specifications, and proactively assessing potential changes, you will contribute to ensuring optimal performance in our operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the senior manager engineering and other user groups to define the scope of work on multiple projects, including system maintenance strategy;
  • Develop technical specifications necessary for creating the specifications;
  • Supervise the preparation of technical plans and schedules;
  • Develop work breakdown structures, identify engineering work packages, and assess resource needs in coordination with the senior manager engineering;
  • Monitor engineering work schedules and progress, whether conducted in-house or externally, to ensure adherence to timelines;
  • Evaluate compliance and eligibility of technical submissions and make recommendations;
  • Organize design reviews in collaboration with VIA Rail’s consultants and technical specialists to ensure compliance with VIA’s requirements, specifications, regulations, and quality standards;
  • Monitor and control the progress of engineering work on contractors’ and consultants’ sites. Suggest corrective measures as needed;
  • Analyze test and commissioning plans to advise project managers on compliance with specifications before approving delivery.

Requirements:

  • Hold a university degree in engineering;
  • Registered member of the “Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec”;
  • 5 years in the field of project engineering;
  • Concrete field experience with suppliers or subcontractors in the manufacturing industry;
  • Excellent ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing (English and French);
  • Experience with railway rolling stock or heavy transport equipment.

Assets:

  • Experience in reliability, maintenance, or maintenance management;
  • PMP certification;
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and SolidWorks software;
  • Proven competence in using Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project.
