Job Description
The Registered Nurse (Specialty Pharmacy Services Nurse), under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Specialty Pharmacy Services and/or the Nursing Manager, Specialty Pharmacy Services, administers and monitors specialized pharmacological therapies by infusion, injection, or oral administration in the home and/or clinic setting. The Infusion Nurse is responsible for monitoring patients for infusion-related reactions (intervening as necessary), accurately documenting the procedure, and submitting reports in a timely manner. The Registered Nurse (Specialty Pharmacy Services Nurse) must maintain effective communication with the Nursing Supervisor, Specialty Pharmacy Services and/or the Nursing Manager, Specialty Pharmacy Services to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. Specialized pharmacology training will be provided.

Specialty Pharmacy Services nursing care is an individual experience for each patient. Therefore, we ensure that patients remain with the same nurse from one infusion to the next to ensure the highest quality of care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- · Develop and review individualized nursing care plans for each patient;
- · Perform patient health assessments and teach medication administration procedures;
- · Obtain intravenous access through the placement of a peripheral intravenous infusion or central line access (CCIP, DAVC, etc.);
- · Prepare various specialized pharmacological treatments and administer them intravenously or by injection;
- · Provide patient care using observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling and health teaching skills, and report any adverse events to the direct supervisor or required stakeholders;
- · Perform routine nursing duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and provincial nursing regulatory body standards;
- · Provide patient-centered care in accordance with the established care plan or medical directives;
- · Carry out specialized nursing interventions involving recognized training and current skills that have been demonstrated and updated in accordance with standards;
- · Continue, as needed, training related to the role, medications and pharmacovigilance;
- · Observe and document the health status of patients;
- · Report and document adverse events in accordance with pharmacovigilance requirements;
- · Perform all other tasks as required.

- pharmacological treatments in the home and/or clinic setting. The infusion nurse is responsible for

- procedure, and submitting reporting in a timely manner. The Specialty Pharma Nurse – Registered Nurse is
- expected to maintain effective communication with the Specialty Nursing Supervisor and/or Specialty
- Pharma Nurse Manager to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. Specialized pharmacological training will
- be provided.

DUTIES
- Develop and review nursing care plans that are individualized to each patient.
- Conducts patient health assessments and medication administration teaching.
- Obtain IV access through peripheral IV initiation or central line access (PICC, IVAD, etc.).
- Prepares and administers a variety of specialized intravenous or injectable pharmacological
treatments. - Provide patient care by utilizing the skills of observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling,
health teaching, and reporting any adverse events to immediate supervisor or required
stakeholders. - Perform routine nursing duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and provincial
body standards. - Provide patient centered care according to the established care plan or medical directive.
- Perform specialized nursing procedures for which recognized training and current competencies
have been demonstrated and updated per standards. - Maintain role related, medication and pharmacovigilance training as required.
- Observe and document patient conditions.
- Report and document Adverse Events as per Pharmacovigilance requirements.
- Complete all other duties as requested.
Job Qualification
- · Experience in acute care and/or administration of specialty pharmaceutical products;
- · Experience in home care is an asset;
- · Experience in critical care (e.g., Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit), infusion clinic or oncology is preferred;
- · Exceptional skills in setting up a peripheral intravenous infusion;
- · Experience with central catheters (DAVC, CCIP, etc.) is an asset.

- Able to transcribe doctor’s orders;
- Valid driver’s license.
Education:
- RN level nurses who have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and hold a current registration with the provincial licensing body.
- Current CPR certification required
Other Requirements:
- Clear criminal background check (with vulnerable sector screening), negative TB test
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable vehicle
