Job Description
The Welding Technician is responsible for performing various welding techniques to join and fabricate metal components. This role involves ensuring the quality and precision of welds while adhering to safety and company guidelines/specifications. This role will contribute to the successful completion of welding projects, ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of finished products.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing all on-site welding requirements such as in-service, fabrication, and repair welding to fabricate metal components according to engineering blueprints and specifications.
- Performs welding duties during emergency response as required.
- Contractor oversight/inspection for activities directly related to ground disturbance, pipeline repair, and mechanical outside services.
- Maintain accurate records of welding parameters, inspection reports, and any deviations encountered during welding processes. Collaborate with the engineering team to update and improve welding procedures as needed.
- Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and procedures during all welding operations. Ensure proper ventilation, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with company and industry safety standards. Maintain and re-certify welding and specialized equipment required to ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations, as well as perform welding (craft welder) for weld procedure qualifications (WPQ).
- Perform the installation of pressure-containing, pipe compression, and composite repair sleeves. Operate and maintain specialized pipeline equipment such as Split Frame Rotary Cutters, End Mill Cold-Cutters, Large Bore Hot Tap Machines, and Mobile Transfer Pump Units.
- Regularly inspect welds for defects, adherence to quality standards, and structural integrity. Conduct non-destructive tests (NDT) and visual inspections to identify and rectify any welding issues. Regularly inspect and maintain welding equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working condition. Identify and report any malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Five years’ experience maintaining and performing in-service welding procedures in an oil and gas setting.
- Alberta Grade B Pressure Welder Certificate of Competency, with interprovincial designation or Technical Safety BC Pressure Welder Certificate of Recognition with interprovincial designation.
Specific knowledge that would be an asset
- Pipeline Maintenance Skill Block Competencies outlined in the Tmci Training Program including pipeline construction and right of way maintenance experience.
- Canadian Standards Association W178.2 Certification of Welding Inspectors Certified Level I, including applicable code endorsements or where applicable in (Puget Sound) American Welding Society QC1 Standards for AWS Certification of Welding Inspectors certified welding inspector (CWI), including applicable code endorsements.
